SPARC is a RISC instruction set architecture (ISA) that was developed by Sun and Fujitsu, first released in 1987 and which continues to be developed today by Fujitsu. Earlier Sun computers were based on the Motorola 68K processor and the first SPARC workstation was introduced in 1989.

Protons have led the way in early clinical trials, largely because existing proton therapy centers can be adapted to deliver FLASH doses. In 2020, the University of Cincinnati Health launched the first human FLASH trial to use proton beams, to treat cancer that had metastasized to bones. “If I want to be pragmatic, the proton beam is ready to go, so let’s move with what we have,” says Geneva University Hospitals’ Marie-Catherine Vozenin.
